We need your help! Many of you saw our post earlier about the paint dumped in the water. More vandalism was discovered today. Some of the storywalk boards were shot at, and some of the trail marker signs are being ripped off the trees. Police reports will be filed for the vandalism, and if anyone has any information of who may be involved, please reach out to us or report to PD. www.biddefordmaine.org/FormCenter/Police-Department-7/CRIME-TIP-FOR-THE-BIDDEFORD-POLICE-DEPAR-40
If you see something, say something. Thanks for helping us keep our park safe and clean!
And a big shout out to all of our volunteers who have helped clean up downed trees, spilled paint, and replace the storywalk boards. We couldn't do it without you! ... See MoreSee Less

Silver lining to cleaning up paint in West Brook that runs along the red trail-I found this guy. It’s a fresh water mussel or clam. This is why paint in the stream is so harmful! This might be a Brook Floater, one of the rarest species in Maine! LET'S SHARE THIS POSITIVE POST <3
www.maine.gov/ifw/fish-wildlife/wildlife/species-information/invertebrates/freshwater-mussels.html ... See MoreSee Less
"As filter-feeders, freshwater mussels provide a vital service to Maine’s lakes, ponds, rivers and streams by removing suspended particles such as algae, bacteria, and detritus from the water column. Because they constantly filter large volumes of water, reside in the benthic substrate, can’t leave their surroundings, and live a long time (more than 100 years for some species!), freshwater mussels are sensitive to contaminants and changes in their environment. Consequently, they are a valuable indicator of water quality and aquatic ecosystem health, but they also are one of the most imperiled groups of animals in the country."
Thank you to the volunteer for cleaning effort 😊

HEY FRIENDS, there has been some unwelcome and harmful activity in the park. This paint was dumped off the red trail near the falls, and one of the story walk signs was smashed in the last couple days. Please report any suspicious activity in the park to the police department! Please share this post, and thanks in advance for helping! ... See MoreSee Less
Most of the paint was picked up-it appeared to be spray paint. Check out the post about this one about the rare mussel that was found!
Would having game cams in strategic locations work? They are not that expensive.

I visited the park yesterday with my adult granddaughter and her 2 young toddlers. They were totally focused and so enjoyed each stop to hear from the different species. Then they would run for the next stop and I at 77 yrs was always trying to keep up. Just want to say thank you to McArthur Library. A great outdoor park for all ages.
I miss my days as a kid years ago running thru these woods!

The ATV was instrumental in allowing volunteers to haul out this small mountain of discarded items-Heart of Biddeford's grant-winning provided the funds for the ATV.
